Deadline Date: December 31, 2025
Heathrow has announced the relaunch of its World of Opportunity Programme to support SMEs across the United Kingdom in advancing their exporting ambitions for 2025–2026.
The focus areas of the programme include the aim to support the UK’s SMEs in boosting their export potential, with previous grants being used for trade missions, research, and training to further exporting ambitions; the provision of £2,000 grants to 12 SME businesses across the UK with one grant awarded to a business from each region and nation; the role of Heathrow as the UK’s largest port by value and a crucial hub for international trade; the recognition of the critical role SMEs play in driving economic growth and promoting British products globally; the partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to promote the programme to their members and help judge the applications; and the connection of winners to an advice network via the Export Support Service offered by the Department for Business and Trade to assist in their research and export strategies.
This programme is designed to provide targeted support to small and medium businesses by offering financial assistance that can be used for activities such as trade missions, market research, or training, which are essential for building and expanding export capabilities. Heathrow’s involvement highlights the airport’s strategic importance in global trade and its commitment to helping UK businesses reach international markets.
The programme also strengthens collaboration between Heathrow, the FSB, and government-backed export advisory services, creating an ecosystem that supports SMEs throughout their exporting journey. Selected businesses will not only receive financial backing but also gain access to expert guidance that can help shape their export strategies.
Eligibility for entry requires SMEs to have their main operations based in the United Kingdom and to be registered with Companies House or provide HMRC evidence in the case of sole traders, who must also demonstrate UK residency and business status.
