The DST-iTBI Ignition Grant opportunity is designed specifically for startup founders in the agriculture, biomedical engineering sectors.
The focus areas of the programme include Proof of Concept validation, Prototype development, Product trials, Entering the market, Commercialization and Scaling the business.
This programme supports innovators building technology-driven solutions that address real-world challenges within agriculture and biomedical engineering. Startups can access seed funding of up to ₹10 lakhs, dedicated entirely to strengthening early-stage development and accelerating their journey toward commercialization. The grant is strictly reserved for activities that validate concepts, develop prototypes or conduct product trials, ensuring that the financial support directly fuels innovation readiness.
The funding is structured through milestone-based instalments, which are released upon the completion of specific achievements such as prototype creation, product testing or preparing a market-ready solution. This structure ensures focused progress and disciplined utilisation of resources. In addition to grants, eligible startups may also access debt or convertible debenture support to facilitate market entry, expansion and scale-up activities, further strengthening their ability to reach customers and build sustainable ventures.
All financial support is governed by clear usage rules that prohibit the allocation of funds toward infrastructure or facility creation. This ensures that resources remain directed toward innovation, product development and commercial readiness, enabling startups to grow efficiently and responsibly within the framework of the grant agreement.
