Deadline Date: June 30, 2026
The Energy Smart Business grants program aims to assist small businesses in Waverley to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through electrification and energy efficiency upgrades.
The program focuses on contributing to Council’s target of Net Zero community emissions by 2035, outlined in the Environmental Action Plan (EAP) and Community Strategic Plan (CSP).
The Energy Smart Business program provides grants of up to $3,000, covering a maximum of 60% of the project cost, to support projects that advance the Council’s Community Net Zero emissions target through electrification or energy efficiency measures. These projects are expected to create measurable emissions reductions, ensure equitable access to sustainability funding, and produce case studies to guide future investment, business sustainability actions, and Council initiatives.
Under this program, Waverley Council will provide up to 60% matching funding through reimbursement of out-of-pocket business expenses up to $3,000, excluding GST, third-party contributions, or rebates, and inclusive of the business’s financial contribution. For instance, a project costing $3,000 may receive a grant of $1,800, while a $10,000 project may receive the maximum grant amount of $3,000.
Eligible applicants must be registered businesses operating from a physical location within the Waverley Local Government Area and have fewer than 40 employees. They must provide written landlord approval or proof of ownership, hold a lease agreement exceeding two years, and ensure the site is not subject to a demolition clause. Projects must involve replacing a gas appliance with an electric one or upgrading an electric appliance to achieve at least a 30% efficiency improvement. The installed products must carry a minimum two-year warranty (five years recommended), and all project work must be performed by a licensed electrician or plumber.
