Deadline Date: January 09, 2026
The Western Australian State Government has announced Round 8 of the Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants Program to support locally driven projects that boost economic growth and development in regional communities.
Focus Areas: The objectives of the RED Grants Program include sustainable jobs, expanding or diversifying industry, developing skills or capabilities, attracting new investment in the region, and increasing productivity.
The Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants Program is a key State Government initiative that provides funding support for projects that contribute to economic growth and diversification in regional Western Australia. A total of up to $5 million has been allocated for Round 8, with eligible applicants able to apply for individual grants of up to $150,000.
Administered by the nine Regional Development Commissions (RDCs) and overseen by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), the program aims to strengthen local economies through innovation, investment, and community partnerships. Applicants are encouraged to design initiatives that generate employment, promote new industries, and enhance regional capabilities.
Eligible applicants must be legal entities with an Australian Business Number (ABN) and an account with an authorised Australian financial institution. State or Federal Government agencies, Government Trading Enterprises, schools, hospitals, and certain trustees are not eligible to apply. Projects seeking funding must demonstrate clear alignment with at least one of the program’s objectives and provide a minimum 50% cash contribution, except in specific cases for not-for-profit or Aboriginal-owned organisations.
Applications will be assessed competitively based on economic impact, local partnerships, regional priorities, and financial sustainability. Preference will be given to initiatives that promote local content, create regional employment, support small suppliers, and drive wider economic benefits. Successful applicants will be required to enter into a formal Grant Agreement before receiving funds, with payments tied to milestone achievements and the submission of progress and final reports.
