Deadline: September 30, 2025
The City of Karratha’s Take Your Business Online Grant Scheme offers City businesses financial assistance of up to $5,000 per business on a matched dollar for dollar basis to improve their digital capacity and marketing in order to increase competitiveness, innovation and efficiency of the enterprises’ operations, products and services.
Projects supported through this policy will also contribute to the implementation of the City’s Economic Development Strategy by assisting local businesses with retention and growth. 2017 Map and Gap Study commissioned by the City of Karratha and Regional Development Australia identified a gap in the market where City businesses and retailers are losing a large market share for online shopping and online service providers. Council is committed to strengthening microbusiness and SMEs through different initiatives including the Take Your Business Online Grant Scheme.
The City of Karratha offers financial assistance of up to $5,000 on a matched dollar for dollar basis to help small businesses within the municipality enhance their digital capacity and marketing efforts. The grant scheme targets microbusinesses and SMEs to foster retention and growth, addressing a significant market gap revealed by a 2017 study that showed losses in online market share among local businesses. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria including small business registration, appropriate insurances, planning approvals for home-based businesses, and having market-ready products or services. Proposals must demonstrate benefits to the City of Karratha and show financial viability while including detailed project plans and quotations.
Grant funds can support activities like web design, social media, e-business platforms, online learning, membership portals, customer relationship management, app development, and online marketing but cannot be used for operating costs such as wages, rent, or utilities. Funding is provided as reimbursement after expenses are incurred and approved.
Applications are competitive, with all successful applicants required to acknowledge the City’s assistance through logos on project materials, joint media promotion, and submission of acquittal reports. Unspent funds must be returned to the City, and proper financial management is mandatory to ensure compliance. Evaluation and acquittal reports must be submitted within six months unless an extension is approved. The City reserves the right to reclaim funds if receipts are not provided. Decisions are final and applicants may resubmit for future rounds.
