The Games Production Fund offers flexible support to Australian independent gamemakers and games studios.
The Games Production Fund supports early-stage game projects with prototypes by providing direct funding to help gamemakers achieve important development milestones and strengthen their position in the international games landscape.
The fund is designed for projects that already have an early-stage prototype and supports original Australian independent games as they progress towards a significant stage of development. Applicants must explain the milestone they are working towards and how the funding will help them achieve it.
The program can support milestones such as completing or releasing a game, releasing a game through Early Access, completing a public or private demo for digital events, physical events or publisher pitches, creating a globally competitive vertical slice, developing a playable prototype suitable for recognition through a notable award, showcase, festival, gallery or museum opportunity, or achieving another significant goal defined by the applicant.
The Games Production Fund provides grants of up to $100,000 to support the production of original Australian independent games with budgets of up to $500,000 at the time of application. The funding is intended to help projects reach a significant milestone in their development.
To be eligible, an applicant must be an incorporated company carrying on business in Australia with central management and control in Australia, have an Australian Business Number (ABN), be registered for GST if required by law, and control the rights necessary to carry out the project through a clear chain of title. Other business structures, including sole traders, trusts and public companies, are not eligible. Sole traders are encouraged to consider applying for the Emerging Gamemakers Fund if they meet that program’s requirements.
