The Safer Business Grant supports Territory businesses by providing co-investment funding to improve the physical security of eligible commercial assets and strengthen business resilience and continuity of operations.
The grant aims to improve the physical security of eligible commercial assets, support businesses to proactively address physical security vulnerabilities and risks relevant to their operations, encourage co-investment in practical security improvements that contribute to safer and more resilient business environments, and provide accessible and timely support for businesses to implement eligible security works.
Eligible businesses can apply for funding to improve the security of their business premises or mobile business. Businesses operating from a fixed premises can receive up to $10,000 through a 50:50 co-contribution arrangement, while mobile businesses can receive up to $2,500 under the same co-contribution model. The funding is intended to help businesses invest in practical security measures that reduce risks and improve overall resilience.
Projects supported under the grant must address a security risk or safety issue affecting the business or improve the resilience of the business premises. The proposed works must be practical, reasonable, and provide a clear security benefit. Funding is not available for general maintenance, routine replacements, cosmetic upgrades, or normal day-to-day business expenses. Businesses must also be ready to begin the approved works and complete the project within three months of receiving funding.
To be eligible, applicants must be a Territory Enterprise, whether operating as a for-profit or not-for-profit organisation, a landowner or landlord, or a body corporate established under the Unit Titles Act (NT) 1975. Applicants must not be an excluded recipient, must own or lease business premises or a mobile business in the Northern Territory, and must be fully compliant with all relevant legal obligations.
