The Starter Company Plus program offers to support entrepreneurs in starting, expanding, and growing small businesses through training, advisory services, mentorship, and grant funding opportunities.
The program focuses on business training, education, business plan development, growth planning, pivot planning, budgeting, mentorship, and small business growth.
The Starter Company Plus program helps entrepreneurs develop their businesses by providing training, education, advisory services, and the opportunity to be selected for grant funding of up to $5,000. Participants also gain access to mentorship from local business leaders.
The program is delivered in two phases. The first phase is open to all applicants and includes training, education, and assistance in preparing an updated business plan, growth plan or pivot plan, along with a budget. Applicants selected to continue to the second phase receive grant funding and participate in a three-month mentoring period.
Applicants must operate a for-profit business located within the municipal boundaries of Markham. They must not be employed full time elsewhere, enrolled in a full-time education program, or planning to return to full-time education within the next three years.
Applicants must also not be receiving funding from another provincial entrepreneurship or business program, must not have previously received a Starter Company (Plus) grant or a Small Business Recovery and Digital Resilience Program grant, and must not operate a commission-based business or franchise. Eligible applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents living in Ontario.
