Deadline Date: August 28, 2026
The Farming Infrastructure stream under the BC Hydro Peace Agricultural Compensation Fund provides financial support to agricultural producers, industry associations, non-profit organizations, and other eligible applicants in the Peace region to strengthen farming infrastructure and support long-term agricultural production and agrifoods economic activity.
The program focuses on supporting agricultural production and agrifoods economic activity, capital investment for agriculture industry infrastructure, fixed and moveable capital infrastructure, infrastructure and transportation improvements, cleaning and packing facilities, warehousing and storage, distribution facilities, support for the vegetable industry, and the development of new agricultural commodities. It also aims to provide flexible funding opportunities, encourage regional decision-making, and ensure sustainable management of the fund for the long-term benefit of the Peace region.
The BC Hydro Peace Agricultural Compensation Fund was established to help strengthen the agriculture sector across the Peace region by supporting projects that contribute to agricultural growth and economic development. The fund is administered by Northern Development Initiative Trust, governed by a board representing the region’s agriculture industry, and overseen by BC Hydro. It operates as a sustainable endowment, allowing only a portion of the total funds to be distributed each year to ensure long-term availability.
Through the Farming Infrastructure stream, eligible applicants may receive grants of up to $50,000, covering a maximum of 75% of eligible project costs. Key producer associations are not subject to the $50,000 funding limit. Applicants are required to contribute at least 10% of the eligible project budget. The program also sets annual funding limits of $100,000 each for water projects and fencing projects. Beginning January 1, 2026, a lifetime maximum of $300,000 in Farming Infrastructure funding applies to each individual farm.
Eligible applicants include corporations, cooperatives, individuals, partnerships actively involved in agriculture within the Peace region, including new entrants and young agricultural operators. Registered non-profit agricultural organizations, regional industry associations, agencies, boards, councils, and educational institutions conducting research directly related to the Peace region are also eligible to apply.
Eligible projects include investments in agricultural infrastructure, both fixed and moveable capital assets, as well as improvements to infrastructure and transportation that support agricultural production, storage, processing, and distribution. Projects that enhance facilities for vegetable production and emerging agricultural commodities may also qualify.
