The National Research, Development and Innovation Office offers to support activities that help applicants obtain domestic and international industrial property protection for intellectual creations.
The focus areas of this call include obtaining domestic and international industrial property protection, filing Hungarian patent applications, utility model applications, plant variety protection applications, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, commencement of national and regional procedures under the PCT, validation of European patents, filing Hungarian trade mark applications, European Union trade mark applications, international trade mark applications, Hungarian design protection applications, and Community design protection applications.
This funding opportunity is supported through the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund. Its objective is to encourage activities that strengthen the protection of intellectual property and facilitate the utilisation of intellectual creations through domestic and international industrial property rights.
The call is open to a wide range of beneficiaries, including higher education institutions, education institutions outside higher education, budgetary research institutions, other budgetary institutions outside education or research, enterprise-based research organisations, enterprises, non-profit research organisations, other non-profit organisations, private individuals, and the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network.
The finalised proposal must be submitted together with a duly signed declaration verifying the electronic submission. The declaration must either include a qualified electronic signature or an advanced electronic signature based on a qualified certificate, including signatures created using the Digital Citizenship Programme (DÁP) mobile application, or it must be authenticated through the ePaper service. After authentication, the signed declaration must be attached to the finalised proposal before submission through the online system.
In 2026, the total available budget for this call is HUF 500 million, and the maximum project duration is 18 months.
Funding is available for several eligible activities. Applicants may receive up to HUF 800,000 for filing a Hungarian patent, utility model, or plant variety protection application. Filing an application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) is supported with up to HUF 2,500,000. National or regional procedures under the PCT are eligible for up to HUF 1,500,000 per procedure, with a maximum of HUF 7,500,000. Validation of a European patent is supported with up to HUF 500,000 per country where a full description translation is required or HUF 300,000 per country for claims-only translation, up to a maximum of HUF 2,000,000. Hungarian trade mark applications are supported with HUF 100,000, European Union trade mark applications with HUF 250,000, international trade mark applications with HUF 400,000, Hungarian design protection applications with HUF 100,000, and Community design protection applications with HUF 100,000.
Eligible applicants include private individuals residing in Hungary and legal entities with a registered seat in Hungary or in the European Economic Area with a branch office in Hungary. Eligible organisations include businesses with or without legal personality, non-profit business companies, budgetary organs and budgetary entities, and non-profit and other non-business organisations.
