Deadline Date: October 01, 2026
The Shevchenko Foundation is inviting applications under its Community Development Pillar – Local Projects Sector to support local initiatives that preserve, promote, and advance Ukrainian Canadian cultural heritage and community development across Canada.
The program focuses on projects that contribute to enriching the Canadian experience through Ukrainian Canadian culture, strengthening the Ukrainian community in Canada, sharing Ukrainian Canadian cultural contributions with diverse audiences, supporting innovative and sustainable cultural development approaches, encouraging public engagement, and promoting inclusiveness, creativity, excellence, and community connection. Eligible local projects may include concerts, lectures of a community nature, commemorative events, workshops, conferences, and other extraordinary community-based initiatives that demonstrate a tangible connection to the Ukrainian Canadian experience.
The Shevchenko Foundation provides grants to organizations and institutions operating at the local level in Canada for projects that promote community participation and cultural engagement. The Foundation supports initiatives that demonstrate strong project planning, financial responsibility, public engagement, and clear community impact. Applications are assessed on the basis of project goals, organizational capacity, relevance to Ukrainian cultural heritage, innovation, sustainability, and financial viability.
The Foundation funds up to 50 percent of total project or program costs for successful applicants, depending on available budget resources. Grants may be used for project-related expenses but cannot support general living allowances for participants. The Foundation also encourages projects that incorporate new technologies and collaborative partnership models to strengthen the preservation and dissemination of Ukrainian Canadian heritage and culture.
Eligible applicants include Canadian not-for-profit community organizations, artist collectives, Canadian registered private businesses operating primarily in Canada, educational institutions, and professional, semi-professional, or amateur groups governed by a board or responsible body. Organizations applying for funding must ensure that any activities involving children under 18 follow applicable youth protection policies and procedures.
Projects that fall within the annual operational mandate and overhead costs of educational entities, as well as festivals, are not eligible under this Local Projects Sector. Applicants must submit grant applications before the project start date, and organizations with outstanding final reports from previous grants are not eligible to apply for new funding until reporting requirements are completed.
