Deadline Date: December 31, 2026
The Action and Quick Intervention Grants is inviting applications to support civil society organisations in promoting democratic values, civic engagement, and public participation through short-term actions and campaigns.
The focus of this call is to support civil society actions and campaigns at local, regional, or national levels that address current social issues, engage stakeholders including disadvantaged or marginalised communities, and reach broader segments of society. The programme aims to strengthen advocacy efforts, expand the use of effective civic engagement tools, contribute to meaningful dialogue with decision-makers, and empower participants by demonstrating that civic engagement can lead to tangible change. The initiative also responds to challenges faced by civil society organisations in Hungary, including shrinking civic space, restrictive conditions, smear campaigns, chilling effects, and self-censorship, especially outside the capital.
Civil society organisations play an important role in democratic societies by raising awareness about social issues, promoting citizen participation, monitoring legislative processes, and contributing to transparency and accountability. Through campaigns and community actions, they encourage dialogue, engage stakeholders, and bring visibility to important causes.
The grant supports projects with a duration ranging from 3 to 12 months. Funding amounts range between €1,000 and €25,000 per project.
Eligible applicants include civil society organisations established in Hungary that are non-profit voluntary organisations or informal citizens’ groups with non-commercial purposes. These organisations must operate independently from government bodies, political parties, public entities, and commercial organisations.
Applicants must be non-profit organisations that do not distribute profits to members or boards, even if they engage in revenue-generating activities to support their mission. Eligible organisations must also ensure that members do not hold direct commercial interests in the organisation’s activities. Trade and professional associations formed solely to advance the interests of their members are not eligible.
The organisations must be voluntary in nature, created voluntarily by groups or individuals, with non-compulsory membership structures. They must also remain independent from local, regional, and national governments, political parties, and commercial entities, which must not hold majority representation in their founding or management bodies.
