The Swedish Energy Agency is inviting applications for projects that advance fossil-free electricity production to strengthen the resilience, reliability, and sustainability of the nation’s electricity supply.
The focus areas of this call include research and innovation projects in fossil-free electricity production, the development of a sustainable energy system, facilitation of electrification in other sectors, planning and security of supply, ensuring competitiveness, and promoting ecological and social sustainability, with specific emphasis on nuclear power and other fossil-free electricity sources such as hydropower, pumped storage, wind power, solar power, ocean energy, combined heat and power, and the role of hydrogen in electricity production.
The call for proposals is part of the programme The Electricity System of the Future, which seeks to address the challenges arising from the ongoing energy transition and changes in electricity production and usage. Projects supported under this call must have the potential to advance fossil-free electricity production while contributing to one or more of the programme’s objectives, enhancing the resilience, robustness, and sustainability of the Swedish electricity system. Collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutes is encouraged to strengthen project outcomes.
The total funds available for this call amount to SEK 270 million, with around SEK 170 million allocated for nuclear power projects and SEK 100 million for other fossil-free electricity production initiatives. Eligible applicants include companies, public sector bodies, universities and colleges across social science, humanities, technical, and natural science disciplines, as well as research institutions. Private individuals and individual companies are not eligible to apply.
