Deadline Date: February 17, 2026
The Global Gas Innovation Call offers a $2 million funding opportunity to accelerate next-generation innovations for Canada’s natural gas industry.
The key focus areas of this initiative include advancing leading clean technologies for natural gas production (upstream), transmission and distribution (midstream), and end-use applications (downstream), with special attention on sustainable energy innovations, low-emission gas innovations, and an open category for other breakthrough solutions.
Through this program, startups and SMEs have the chance to validate technology performance at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 5–9, providing a pathway to test prototypes, de-risk solutions, and accelerate commercialization. Participants also gain access to non-dilutive industry capital, industry demonstration sites in Canada, and adopter-centric feedback from energy leaders to refine and scale their technologies.
Applicants can benefit from strategic partnerships with Canadian energy producers, positioning their innovations to deliver measurable impact by reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency and resiliency across the natural gas value chain. Each selected project is eligible to receive up to CAD $500,000, covering up to 50% of qualifying project costs, providing both financial support and credibility in the industry.
The competition is open to both Canadian and international innovators, including small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as technology development startups. Applicants without a prior presence in Canada must demonstrate how their project and commercialization plan will enable deployment of solutions, particularly in Alberta. Technologies should offer novel improvements in environmental and economic performance, with priority given to projects at TRL 7 or higher, though TRL 6 technologies may be considered if they show a clear path to commercialization.
By participating, innovators can showcase their solutions to key Canadian energy leaders, receive direct industry feedback, and accelerate the adoption of high-impact cleantech solutions that support the country’s goal of a cleaner, more sustainable natural gas industry.
