Deadline Date: February 24, 2026
The Industrial PhD project is requesting grant applications to support collaborative research projects where a private company, an Industrial PhD student, and a university work together on applied research in Denmark.
The programme’s focus areas include supporting research projects carried out with companies that have a geographical department in Denmark (or in Greenland or the Faroe Islands), involving universities officially approved to undertake PhD programmes with assigned supervisors, requiring candidates who have completed a master’s degree with qualifying academic performance, and encouraging projects both within and beyond thematic priority areas such as green research, life science and health, critical and digital technologies, and space technology.
Innovation Fund Denmark provides financial contributions for Industrial PhD projects to help cover part of the involved parties’ costs over the duration of the programme. The company can receive up to DKK 17,000 per month toward the Industrial PhD student’s salary and up to DKK 100,000 for the student’s travel expenses and participation in courses. The university partner receives a fixed amount of DKK 360,000 (including overhead) to cover costs related to supervision, facilities, relevant courses, thesis assessment, and dissemination of results. These contributions are intended to support sustained engagement between the company, student, and university throughout the research project period.
To be eligible to apply, companies must have a geographical department in Denmark and the financial capacity and facilities to run the project, while universities must be officially approved to undertake PhD programmes and able to attach a supervisor to the project. Candidates must have completed a master’s degree with acceptable academic performance levels, such as specific grade requirements for thesis and overall results, to qualify for participation. These criteria help ensure that the Industrial PhD project combines strong academic potential with practical industry application.
