The Digitalise Your SME initiative provides non-repayable grants to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malta to invest in digitalisation and enhance their competitiveness in the global marketplace.
The scheme aims to help businesses improve resilience, efficiency, productivity, and customer experience by adopting new digital capabilities and digitalised processes across product and process design, engineering, end-to-end procurement, supply chain management, distribution, and after-sales services. This grant scheme falls under Policy Objective 1 of the SFC2021 Programme 2021–2027, “A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity”, and addresses the specific objective of enabling SMEs, citizens, research organisations, and public authorities to reap the benefits of digitalisation. The initiative also promotes entrepreneurship and the economic exploitation of new ideas, including the creation of new firms.
Grants under this scheme range from €10,000 to €128,400, including a 7% flat rate to cover indirect costs. Eligible investments may be part-financed under the de minimis Regulation at up to 50% in Malta and 60% in Gozo, with total de minimis aid limited to €300,000 over any three-year period. Applicants must submit a de minimis declaration form along with their application. The scheme has an allocated budget of €5,000,000, including contributions from the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), and will remain operational until 31 December 2026, subject to funding availability.
Eligible undertakings include micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises engaged in an economic activity, regardless of legal form. Start-ups that qualify as micro or small enterprises are also eligible. Enterprises without legal personality must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (CAP 16 of the Laws of Malta).
