Deadline: 26-Feb-2026
The Caithness Business Fund is seeking applications for its Apprenticeship Grants Programme to support small to medium enterprises in the Caithness and North Sutherland area by funding graduate-level positions that promote business growth and development.
Focus areas include starting a new business without significantly displacing existing businesses, developing existing businesses through training, growth plans, or employing apprentices or graduates, and ensuring financial viability and owner investment in line with fund criteria.
The grants provide funding for graduate placements of 24 months in duration at a graduate-level role, with salaries supported between £25,000 and £32,000 per annum. Additional support of up to £1,250 annually is available for Continuing Professional Development, such as completing CPD modules at local training providers, with a preference for UHI North, West and Hebrides.
Eligible applicants must be small to medium enterprises, including sole traders, partnerships, or limited companies, and must not be very small lifestyle or hobby businesses with no scalability. The business must be based within the Dounreay Travel to Work Area. Applications for capital equipment such as computers or printers will only be considered if they demonstrate growth or additionality.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate financial viability, including owner investment, and ensure that graduate placements align with business development objectives. The scheme targets graduates who have qualified within the last five years and are seeking roles that contribute meaningfully to the business’s growth trajectory. The grant aims to foster sustainable business development while supporting local talent retention and professional growth opportunities.
