Mount Alexander Shire Council has launched a new grant program aimed at supporting business-led initiatives that contribute to a strong and resilient Wellbeing Economy.
The program is designed to encourage economic activity that benefits people, place, and the environment, helping to create a thriving local economy that is fair, sustainable, and community focused.
The grants are intended to support local businesses, business groups, farmer networks, and community organisations working in partnership with businesses. Funding is directed toward small, practical projects that deliver lasting improvements for local enterprises while strengthening economic connections across the Shire. By investing in locally driven initiatives, the program seeks to build long-term economic resilience and shared prosperity within Mount Alexander Shire.
Through this grant program, Mount Alexander Shire Council is supporting initiatives that strengthen local businesses while fostering a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable economy that serves the long-term wellbeing of the community.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available for eligible projects scheduled to be delivered between February and June 2026. These grants are designed to be flexible and accessible, enabling applicants to implement initiatives that address real business needs and contribute to broader wellbeing outcomes across the local economy.
To be eligible, applicants must be based within Mount Alexander Shire, with project activities and direct beneficiaries located in the area. The program adopts a broad definition of business, including sole traders, companies, partnerships, co-operatives, and social enterprises. Applications are open to individual businesses, groups of businesses collaborating on shared projects, and community organisations working directly with local businesses where the primary benefit flows to those businesses.
Applicants must be an incorporated association, a registered not-for-profit organisation, or an established business, with unincorporated groups required to have a valid auspice arrangement. All applicants must be in good standing with Council, with no outstanding fines, enforcement actions, or unresolved grant obligations. Financial compliance is also required, including holding an Australian Business Number or providing a Statement by a Supplier, and having no outstanding debts to Council.
