The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking applications for its Regional Business Improvement Program to implement a business audit program that supports manufacturers to identify opportunities for improvement, build capability and foster long-term competitiveness.
The program aims to enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and overall competitiveness by providing businesses with practical insights and guidance on streamlining their processes.
As part of the program, selected SME manufacturers will receive a comprehensive audit to assess the requirements and expected costs associated with adopting continuous improvement and lean practices. The audit will examine each business’s potential for efficiency gains, identifying areas where lean principles can be applied to drive measurable improvements in productivity and operational performance.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet several key criteria. Businesses must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and operate within the manufacturing industry, as demonstrated by a relevant Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) code or Business Industry Code (BIC). Applicants must operate a manufacturing facility in an eligible regional NSW location and qualify as an SME, employing between 10 and 200 full-time equivalent staff.
Other eligibility requirements include holding, or committing to obtain, public liability insurance of at least $10 million per occurrence (or equivalent self-insurance), being a fit and proper legal entity, and not being insolvent, bankrupt, or involved in ongoing legal proceedings. Applicants must also declare that they are not aware of any issues that could pose reputational or other risks to the NSW Government, provide timely access to the appointed service provider for the audit, and allocate the necessary resources during the audit period.
Through this program, regional NSW manufacturers can gain valuable insights into operational improvements, implement lean practices, and position their businesses for long-term growth and competitiveness.
