Deadline Date: January 09, 2026
The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) has relaunched its Asset Assist Programme, providing much-needed support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across South Africa.
The programme offers grants of up to R250,000 to help businesses acquire machinery, equipment, working capital, and raw materials. Applicants should note that only up to 20% of the total grant may be allocated for raw materials and stock.
Eligibility for the programme is limited to South African-owned MSMEs that are registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and are tax compliant. Sole proprietors with valid documentation and tax compliance are also eligible. Certain businesses are excluded, including cooperatives, MSMEs with a turnover exceeding R1 million, and those previously funded through the Asset Assist Programme.
Applicants must provide comprehensive documentation to support their application. This includes CIPC registration documents, a company profile, FICA documents for directors, confirmation of tax compliance from SARS, proof of business address, and financial projections for the next 12 months. Existing businesses must also submit 12 months of financial statements or management accounts, a valid business bank account, and the latest month’s bank statements. Start-ups are required to provide a bank account confirmation letter.
All employees of the applying business must be legally permitted to work in South Africa, and for non-citizen employees, valid work permits or permanent residency documentation must be submitted. Applicants are also required to provide indicative quotations for the assets or services they wish to acquire.
This programme presents an important opportunity for South African MSMEs to strengthen their operations, improve productivity, and access the resources needed to grow and remain competitive in the local market.
